Mauritius
We have been to Mauritius a few times, when the boys were tiny to most recently in 2016, and every time we have been blown away by the amazing locals who are some of the most hospitable and friendly people we have ever come across, and the food has always been absolutely outstanding. The number of hotels have increased considerably since the first time we went taking advantage of the stunning beaches and beautiful warm sea.
We swam with dolphins here in August 2016 which was a fantastic experience, and along with riding elephants when we were in Zambia during the same holiday, was something I had always wanted to do. Dolphins are fascinating highly intelligent but friendly creatures and they didn't seem to mind the number of boats following them. We flew to Mauritius straight after our trip to Zambia and Botswana for a bit of rest and relaxation, we were fabulously well looked after and thoroughly spoilt. We knew it was mid-winter so not the best time to visit, as it can be quite windy at this time of year with the sea being a bit chilly and cloudy so not ideal for snorkelling, but it was great for swimming with the dolphins and we had a lovely relaxing time after the full on and hectic experience of being on safari! We hope they start to restrict the water sports soon, because although they are great fun for the tourists, the motor boats can cause significant damage to the beautiful coral reefs surrounding the island.
